Eurythmy (HS 334)

Learning Goals

This course is designed to deepen the experience of the art of eurythmy and its context in the Waldorf high school curriculum.  As a level III course, it assumes participants have taken teacher education levels I and II eurythmy or equivalent.

The goals of this course are: to support prospective teachers deepen their relationship to anthroposophy and the Waldorf pedagogy through the path of eurythmy; to facilitate a deeper understanding of Rudolf Steiner’s vision of the human being through eurythmy experiences; and to clarify understanding of eurythmy as a path of development of “initiative of soul and initiative of will” in the context of Waldorf education.  This course will provide experiences from the eurythmy curriculum of the Waldorf high school. 

Classes will require journaling as a method of documenting and reflecting upon class experience and will be reviewed at the end of the course.

Course Content

Week 1:  
Eurythmy elements with emphasis on music eurythmy, gestures for the zodiac in relationship to speech, reading from Eurythmy by Marjorie Spock regarding zodiac gestures, consideration of high school student experience of eurythmy

Week 2:  
Overview of the EC -12th grade eurythmy curriculum, elaboration of week 1 themes,

Week 3:  
Synthesis of weeks 1 and 2, presentation of work, completion of journals
