Mathematics (HS 126)

Learning Goals

To learn how Waldorf education is practiced and developed by teachers of mathematics and physics in a Waldorf high school (grades 9-12).

Course Content

The following topics are introduced:

  • Objectives of mathematics teaching in a Waldorf High School and its relation to the science program
  • The main lesson curriculum and adolescent development
  • The track class program and diversity of ability
  • Anthroposophical work in mathematics
  • References and suggested topics for further study

 

For those students preparing specifically to teach only mathematics, the following additional topics are discussed:

  • Projective geometry in the math program
  • Foundations of projective geometry
  • Path curves and the work of Lawrence Edwards
