This seminar, focusing on the professional development of the teacher, complements the various subject seminars by taking up practical topics of common concern to all Waldorf high school teachers. The format is interactive, with students and faculty sharing observations and roles.
Particular attention is paid to the questions that arise in our day-to-day teaching, such as effective communication and organizational skills with students, colleagues, and parents. Among the topics to be addressed:
- How do we as teachers further develop an inner hygiene that allows us to handle the complexity of our task?
- Which skills, attitudes, and practices do we need to exercise in order to work as effective colleagues?
We explore issues such as listening behind the words for meaning, staying centered in emotional situations, developing the skills needed for successful meetings and facilitations, supporting effective team work, giving and receiving constructive criticism, using evaluation and review as tools for development.
These sessions are practical in nature, taking the form of discussions, exercises, skill building, role plays, and so on. Students are asked to suggest ahead of time burning questions and topics that they would like to explore in the context of this seminar.
