Life Sciences - Chemistry (HS 320a)

Learning Goals

Each participant is encouraged to develop an understanding of the methods associated with phenomenological or sense-based science. Comparisons between the methods of sense based science and more classical approaches are investigated. Emphasis is be placed on developing understanding through individual experience so that later presentations in the classroom are rich and authentic.

Course Content

The class focuses on understanding the phenomenological method of science and the application of this method to aspects of the 10th and 11th grade chemistry curriculum. We also compare the phenomenological method of teaching to more commonly used methods. The development of chemical formulas is discussed as well as the underlying importance of process in chemistry.
