Speech (HS 338)

Learning Goals

  • To work with speech in relationship to the formative and the individualizing aspects of human development.
  • To develop further abilities in working with the three styles of speech, particularly prose and sonnets.
  • To review all previous speech work in the light of the changing relationship between sense perception and meaning.
  • To support and develop living thinking through speech.
  • To see all the above in the context of what is known as the "pedagogical law".
  • To practice exercises for teacher development as well as those for use in the classroom.

Course Content

Classes consist of presentation and conversation on various working themes as well as group and individual speaking of speech exercises and texts.

 

Topics Covered

Review of previous work:

  • Lyric and Epic poetry
  • Dramatic poetry
  • Further proficiency with speech exercises for teachers and classroom use
  • Breathing and Imagination

 

Individual work on selected texts and speech exercises.

 

Review and preparation for presentation
