with Master Chef Hiroshi Hayashi and Barbara Sustick
Our personal health depends on what we eat. Teachers, parents, and friends of Waldorf education are often aware of the importance of good nutrition but may lack the time and skills to practice what they believe. Weight control, stamina, and personal renewal depend on the quality of food and the consciousness we bring to our cooking. Here is a course that will be practical, spiritual, and nourishing all at the same time!
We will learn that through the art of “Transformational Cooking” we can achieve a natural way of cooking by sharpening imagination, inspiration, and intuition. We will explore how to set up natural kitchens for schools or homes. From this understanding come the steps needed to give back to nature.
This course is for anyone, beginner or advanced, who is interested in a new approach to preparing food that Hiroshi has developed over the 40 years of his career. Creative vision work will also be offered as well as discussions concerning indications on nutrition and health offered by Rudolf Steiner and others.
The cooking classes will take place at the instructors home, and transportation will be arranged.
Materials fee: $50 Hiroshi Hayashi first studied cooking in Japan, where he attained the title of Master Chef. In 1972 he came to Boston where he owned and ran four natural foods restaurants: The Seventh Inn, Sanae, Latacarta, and the Last Chance Café. In 1987 he came to Peterborough, New Hampshire, where he opened Latacarta Restaurant and the Monadnock School for Natural Cooking and Philosophy, which offers classes and certificate programs in the cooking of natural foods. Using only organic and biodynamic foods and cooking techniques, Hiroshi teaches his students to cook from within so as to transform consciousness.
Barbara Sustick has a Masters Degree in Waldorf Education and is developing a program for health and nutrition. Involved in the field of natural foods and organics since 1968, she has worked with Hiroshi Hayashi since 1975.
