Turning Darkness into Light: How Can We Live a Spiritual Life in a Materialistic World?

with MariJo Rogers and Torin Finser

Rather than just complaining or being overwhelmed by the current state of world affairs, is there a way we can “read” the symptoms of our time, using the tools given to us through Anthroposophy? How can we separate the essential from the unessential so that we live each day mindful of our spiritual heritage and aware of our life goals?

In this course we will look at themes from reincarnation and karma to see behind the curtain of outer events.  We will work with our own life story, examine the multiple incarnations of several historical personalities, and explore some of the ancient mystery schools of higher learning.  Each day will also feature meditative work with Rudolf Steiner’s Foundation Stone Meditation and lively movement exercises in eurythmy.  The afternoon sessions will allow time for practical applications of “living a life of spirit” in terms of the workplace, family, and friends.  We will also touch on the karmic aspects of vocation:  how did I end up doing this job?  There will be a balance of instructor presentation, application, and group discussion.  This course is intended for those who are serious about deepening their work with Anthroposophy.

MariJo Rogers and Torin Finser are Co-General Secretaries of the Anthroposophical Society in North America.  MariJo works in global audit and training for Hewlett-Packard Company and is a former Weekend Foundation year teacher at Rudolf Steiner College.  She has taught in a Waldorf high school and frequently conducts weekend workshops on anthroposophical themes.  Torin, Director of the Waldorf Teacher Education Program at Antioch University New England, is a founding member of the Center for Anthroposophy and works with schools on organizational development.  He is the author of five books including the recently published Organizational Integrity.
