“In art is a communion of worlds.” – M.C. Richards, Waldorf educator, painter, poet, and potter
This workshop will explore those images that grip us, enliven us, and guide us. We will find words to explore and articulate them, and use colors and forms to embody the stories, poems, and pictures that arise inwardly to connect us with the world and to each other.
The arts inspire one another, sparking the creative process in a variety of forms. Writers may turn to painting and music, while painters may find in poetry, dance, or clay sculpting a source of energy, conversation, and productivity in the artist’s studio or in the classroom.
Writing exercises that invite innovative uses of language, and art-making that includes painting, drawing, and collage will allow us to explore individual and universal themes. Workshop leaders will bring examples of high school classroom activities as well as guidance for continuing an individual artistic practice. The Studio will deepen a sense of confidence in teachers and others interested in work with that fertile and uncharted realm of the imagination.
We are honored to host an afternoon and an evening session with Thomas Moore, who will share reflections on the creative process, drawing from his experiences as a writer and musician.
