The Art of the Puppet: Archetypes versus Stereotypes in the Image of the Human I

with Janene Ping
Eurythmy with Cezary Ciaglo

We invite you to journey into the realm of archetype in this creative discovery of human form and gesture.  Throughout the ages the ensoulment of the puppet has reflected stages of developing human consciousness.  This course offers a study of puppetry as it has evolved throughout world history.  In our present time of technological mechanization we may ask the question: What does it means to be truly human?  In seeking an answer, we must build an understanding of the differences between the timeless human archetype and its fallen stereotype.  This distinction will serve as backdrop to the themes of form, movement, and multicultural stories.  Each participant will create a five or seven string marionette.  In preparation for the course, the lecture cycle Transforming the Soul (formerly known as Metamorphoses of the Soul: Paths of Experience) by Rudolf Steiner is recommended reading.  A handwork basket and sketch pad will be needed.

Materials fee: $50
